A good business strategy is a strategy, which allows development of business organization and the entire socio-economic configuration in which it functions. It is the main task of strategy creators and “consumers”. Strategy is also a foundation of all managerial processes, in a sense – their beginning. It can be said, that without strategy there is no effective business (and not only) management in an organization. Next, particularly important element of strategy is the fact that it always deals with the future – strategy is the company’s successful “march forward” towards its goals and objectives, regardless of the character of the enterprise. Business strategy clearly falls within the scope of strategic management, but there is a basic difference between the two. Strategic management is a process which tells how to develop and implement the strategy, and how to choose, implement and put into practice the best possible strategic option for the business organization under given circumstances. Essential elements of this management process are strategic decisions, while strategy (which should be created in few alternative options to allow the choice) is the concept of how the company should be functioning in the future, in changing environment, to be successful.

Strategy is obviously the key element in strategic management. Therefore the awareness and understanding of the notion of strategy, as well as the knowledge of how to put the strategy into practice cannot be ignored in the management process. “Civil” strategy, which encompasses business strategy, is essentially different from the military strategy (from which it originates) though it derives from certain rules and experiences of the latter. One should keep in mind, that it is not a direct war with the opponent (competitor) and the aim is not to destroy him. Business strategy is a successful peaceful “fight” for acceptance of the environment, particularly of the market and the natural environment. Strategic business success will come to this organization, which – within the framework of its possibilities and situation in the environment, wins this struggle, meaning that it achieves its strategic goals while fulfilling its mission. In practice, in most cases it is a legal (the rule of economic freedom) battle for the customers and winning their loyalty. That is why, among other reasons, the study of strategy, and even more broadly – of corporate strategic management is reviving, and it is a revival appropriate for the organization of XXI century.
